No matter your role or responsibility, tough decisions are demanded of us at work and in life. Leverage these 3 questions to gain clarity and take meaningful action to propel yourself forward.

  1. How is this decision integral to my life/work?

Pondering where this decision fits into the larger picture might help you decide how much energy to invest thinking about it. You may learn that your energy would be better expended on a higher priority project or problem. You may even decide to do away with action altogether as it pertained to the decision at hand - ultimately saving you time and enabling you to refocus on what’s important.

  2. A decade from now, what might I wish I had done?

This question appeals to your higher self and your core values. It will draw out your inner wisdom and help you build confidence around the decision that you’re making. It will help you avoid the pitfall of taking short-cuts which could cause harm in the long-run. Furthermore, most decisions are reversible - if you can change course later on, pick a direction and go for it.

  3. What does success look like?

Envisioning the ultimate outcome and drawing a clear picture of what success looks like will help you make decisions in alignment with that outcome. Being explicit about what success does and does not entail will ensure you stay on track. Over time, you’ll take meaningful actions that help you achieve your desired impact.
